The retrospective collection "Seven Decades of Painting" honors the Massachusetts born, nearly lifelong resident of New York City, and summer visitor to Maine.
Almost every major museum in the United States owns examples of Mr. Barnet's creations. His prints a new book has just been published documenting the more than 230 prints he created from 1931-2005.
There are two other venues in Naples to see his work:
. At the Philharmonic Center for the Arts, next door to the museum, the John E. Kohan West Galleries exhibits oils by Mr. Barnet and a print retrospective. Intimate studies which may have later led to the creation of a painting
or a print, can also be viewed in the Collector's Corner at the Phil. These shows will remain up through May. . Harmon-Meek Gallery, which has represented the artist for 40 years in Naples, will have a by-appointment only show. In March the gallery hosted a oneweek show of Mr. Barnet's oils, prints and studies. That show will be reinstalled, minus works that have been sold, through May 22. "This is the most comprehensive collection of Barnet works ever assembled, albeit in three locations,
but in the same town," said Bill Meek. "We have been honored to represent Will all of these years and are pleased to have so many works made available by local collectors for the museum tribute."
Harmon-Meek Gallery is in the TIB Financial Centre at Sixth Avenue North and U.S. 41. Call 261-2637 to make an appointment.
