From sea to summit, tour involves paddling, hiking

Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and Up a Creek Kayak Tours team up to present a boat-assisted “Sea-to-Summit Kayak Tour” with a hike to one of the highest points in Collier County.

At 16 feet above sea level, Sand Hill is an ancient sand dune relic from the Pleistocene era and home of rare rosemary scrub ecosystem. In the relatively flat environment of Southwest Florida, the diversity encountered in these few yards is equivalent to thousands of feet of elevation change in other environments.

The next trip takes place Wednesday, March 21. Kayaks are provided. Participation is limited to six people, and kayaking experience is required. All paddlers must be over the age of 15 and under 250 pounds.

Cost is $120 per person ($100 for Friends of Rookery Bay members).

Reservations are required and can be made by calling 417-6310, ext. 401, or online at www.rookerybay.org. ¦
