Online conference will help caregivers identify depression in older adults
The nonprofit National Private Duty Association hosts a free consumer education web conference, “Depression and Older Adults: What Every Caregiver Should Know,” at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 13. Those who tune in will receive advice on how to work with professionals to identify depression in a loved one and how to find experts and resources to help outline and execute a care plan.
Topics will include diagnosing of depression; the association between depression, anxiety and memory loss; understanding which medications are safe and effective; and resources and tools for monitoring treatment and improvement.
One out of three older adults suffers from major depression, according to Sheila McMackin, president of NPDA.
Steven Fox, D.O., medical director of Wellspring Personal Care, will lead the web conference. For the past 30 years, the primary focus of Dr. Fox’s clinical practice, teaching and research has been on the care and treatment for the elderly and disabled. He founded Wellspring Gerontological Services in Chicago in 1985.
Pre-registration for the online conference is required. Sign up at www.privatedutyhomecare.org. ¦
