Name That Company

I trace my roots back to the 1865 founding of Badische Anilin- und Sodafabrik in Germany. I started out recycling, producing dyes from coal tar for the growing textile industry. I soon hired a company doctor and offered employees housing. In 1875, I self-funded a health insurance plan for workers. Today I’m a chemical giant, employing about 114,000 people, including more than 17,000 in North America. My offerings include herbicides, brake fluids, glues, plasticizers, detergents, foams, and raw materials for paints, medicines and more. New areas of interest include wind energy, water solutions and batteries. Who am I?
