Sheldon Fine Art showcases motherdaughter painters

NORWOOD

NORWOOD

Sheldon Fine Art hosts a champagne reception for mother and daughter painters Joyce Norwood and Gee Gee Collins from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8. An exhibit of works by the two will remain through Feb. 15 at the gallery at 460 Fifth Ave. S.

A native of North Carolina and now a longtime Naples resident, Ms. Norwood is a palette knife painter whose textural canvases capture the luminous ethereal light and color of the seashore, host to innocent children at play or forgotten weathered boats at rest. She began her art education at the New York Art Students’ League, continued at the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown and was mentored by Sam Barber, a protégé of Henry Henche.

Following in her mother’s footsteps, Ms. Collins has pursued a life of painting. Her bold brush strokes and colorful palette combine to create layers of paint that give each abstract, figure or floral subject an energy and joie de vivre that delight the viewer.

Showcasing seascape, landscape, figurative and abstract art by local, national, and international fine artists, Sheldon Fine Art opened its first location in 1983 in Newport, R.I., and expanded to Naples 2002. A third gallery, SPA Fine Art in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., opened in 2009.

Regular hours at the Naples gallery are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday- Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 649-6255 or visit www.sheldonfineart.com. ¦
